On April 19, Entertainment Exchange supported a community awareness event, the Disaster Preparedness Festival sponsored by Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA). IRUSA is a non-profit organization that provides emergency disaster relief when it is needed, and spearheads development projects in multiple sectors, including education, income generation, orphan support, health and nutrition, and water and sanitation. IRUSA directly supports international projects in these sectors in nearly 30 countries around the world.
The DisasterPreparedness Festival was held in Franklin Square Park in Washington, DC. It was a fun-filled family event where IRUSA educated the community on disaster preparedness and safety. There was food, fun, safety information, and CPR demonstrations. Guests were also able to tour a fire truck and there was a blood drive truck on-site for guests to donate blood if they were able to do so. Representatives from the Fire Department, FEMA, Serve DC, Department of Health and American Red Cross joined the festival conducting a public education campaign.
Entertainment Exchange (EE) worked closely with the organization to provide staging, trussing and speaker sound services throughout the day. In addition, EE brought in the live musical entertainment – local band, Native Deen.
Native Deen uses only percussion instruments and synthetic sounds during their performances. This has resulted in evocative audio efforts that mesh the sounds of street rap, hip-hop, and R&B. The music of Native Deen resonates with fans all over the world.
